Judge Hlophe’s unilateral resumption of duties while on special leave

An opinion editorial piece in a leading daily newspaper was authored by Chairman of Freedom Under Law, Justice Kriegler, highlighting why it was improper for the Cape Judge President to resume his duties while charges of misconduct were pending against him. The Judge President has since publicly apologised to the Minister of Justice and has resumed his special leave pending the determination of the charges.
